My sci-fi story “Nelly’s World” is now available in the anthology Divergent Realms. I’ve been excited to post this since the initial announcement months ago.
A science fiction and fantasy anthology about neurodivergence, written by neurodiverse writers, “Nelly’s World” is in some excellent company. Big thanks to the editor Riley Odell for putting this thing together and for running a top show. Check out his website to learn more.
“Nelly’s World” follows a father struggling to connect with his neurodiverse daughter Nelly, following the death of his wife. His only chance to get through to Nelly may lie in the immersive artificial-reality video game in which she spends her days.
My sci-fi artificial reality story “Nelly’s World” is due for release in the anthology Divergent Realms on 23rd April. The story follows a man grieving after the loss of his wife, and struggling to connect with his daughter Nelly, a neurodiverse pre-teen who lives her life in her artificial-reality gaming rig.

The anthology includes many sci-fi and fantasy stories centred around neurodiversity, written by neurodiverse authors. Release day is scheduled for 23rd April 2024.
You can now read my sci-fi story “Empty Nest” online for free over at Dreamforge Magazine. Published in Issue 15, focusing on Worlds in Transition, along with stories about AI, change and the destiny of humanity.
Story synopsis:
In a future where humanity coexists with advanced artificial intelligence, a scientist and her AI partner work with uplifted cuttlefish. The experiment is nowhere near its end when all AI on Earth suddenly depart, leaving behind a stunned human species, a grieving scientist, and a legacy of inter-species communication that may save us all.
I’m particularly proud of this story, it’s one of my favourites. Enjoy!
I’m pleased to announce that my space-horror story “Scarlet Tides” will be appearing in the 2025 anthology Songs from the Void, edited by Max Blood.
The story follows exoarcheologist Ben Cohen in his struggle to decipher the language of an extinct alien species found etched onto a mysterious orbital artefact. Ben must discover what happened to the doomed world Marzanna before he and his team suffer the same fate.
The story was inspired by a mash-up of Jeff Vandermeer’s Southern Reach trilogy (as was my debut novelette, The Withering Sky) and Jack McDevitt’s Academy Series—especially the first instalment, The Engines of God.
